Barbara Bolas

Barbara Bolas has a long history of service to public education. After attaining a B.S. in Education from the State University of New York, Barbara began her career as a teacher and has devoted much of her adult life to education and public service.

 

She is a 32-year member of the Upper St. Clair Township Board of School Directors having served multiple terms as the president and vice president of the Board and chair of the Strategic Plan Committee. She is proud to have helped build a legacy of educational excellence in the District and beyond. Based on the US News Best High Schools 2019 National Ranking Upper St. Clair High School was ranked  #1 in the Pittsburgh Metro Area, #444 nationally, and #248 in STEM High Schools.

 

Barbara has also served in positions as a public education advocate at both the state and national levels, including service as President both of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) and National School Boards Association (NSBA). Additionally, she served on the PA Keystone Commission on Education for Employment in the 21St Century focusing on career and technical readiness.  Barbara was honored to present at the PA Association of Vocational Administrators Conference.

 

Her volunteer experience includes president of the Pennsylvania School District Liquid Asset Fund (PSDLAF) working to enhance investment opportunities for school districts and local government entities; And, as president of the PSBA Insurance Trust and School Boards Insurance Company, Ltd., providing insurance programs for school districts.

 

In addition, Barbara’s service includes the Regional Math and Science Collaborative, Local Government Advisory Committee, panelist for the Education Policy and Leadership Center, Education Committee of The Soldiers and Sailors National Military Museum and Memorial, and The National Council for Teacher Education (NCATE).

 

Beyond her commitment to public education Barbara also enjoys coordinating efforts in the Pittsburgh community to provide much needed items for the homeless and children abruptly placed in foster care.
